Parent Council

Parent Council was created to give parents the opportunity to be a part of the Mountain Sun Community beyond the classroom their child(ren) are in. Below is a sign up sheet of opportunities for you to volunteer your time, and talents. Feel free to sign up based on your availability rather than by classroom. Should you have any questions about volunteer opportunities, please contact Racheal Duffy at racheal.a.duffy@gmail.com.

* Note: If you are signing up to be a driver, you must fill out the driver information form (see button below) once annually and turn it into Susanne at the main office. Click below to see volunteering opportunities. *

Join Kim and Janna for information on family camping, school camping, and some hands on activities which will all take place by the fire.
  • FLOAT WORK GROUPS:
At MSCS we honor the arts, in WNC music is a key part of the arts.  So we are going to portray building community using music.
We need someone to head up singing on the float, bringing a few instruments, leading a group of children and adults in holiday and community songs.  This person is someone who can be very patient with very energetic children over an extended period of time.  The parade is a lot of stop and go.  There is not too much room on the actual float for every child.  Caregivers will be asked to keep eyes on their child but most likely won’t be able to fit on the float with the child.

We also need someone to lead creating the campfire atmosphere with a campfire.  Can you creatively put together a campfire that can be seen over hay bales and give the image of a campfire circle?
Christmas Decor:  we will need battery powered Christmas lights, fake snow (thinking bolts of white felt), a decorated Christmas tree and greenery to adorn the float and truck to keep in step with the Hero’s Christmas theme.  We need a point person for this.  Can you and friends gather Christmas decor from the community then assemble it the evening of December 6?

    4.  Sign on the Back of the Float – to tie this whole theme together we need a sign on the back of the float that says (something along these lines) ‘Our Heroes Build Community.  Thank you.’  This sign can be made of wood, canvas, vinyl, whatever works.   If you have the skills, equipment, and time to create this sign please reach out to Racheal for more details.  This is pretty paramount to bringing everything together.

We will need some other props and supplies such as hay bales for students to sit safely on the float, child appropriate instruments and veterans.  Please ask your friends and family that have served to join us.  They are a crucial part in pulling this off.  Can you invite veterans in the community to join us in the parade?
