MacKenzie Henry to Serve as Assistant Primary Teacher at Mountain Sun Community School

Mountain Sun Community School is pleased to announce the hire of MacKenzie Henry as an assistant teacher of their Primary Class. The independent, non-profit educational institution is grateful to be able to flexibly maximize the time, skills, and passions of our teachers.

MacKenzie Henry earned her B.A. from UNC-Greensboro after beginning her studies at the University of Wyoming, the state she calls home. She is also the Co-Owner of Two Pine State, an Emmy Award-winning video production company based in Brevard.

MacKenzie and her husband Philip along with their two children Pax and Bea, relocated to Brevard in early 2016 from Durham, NC. “We were seeking a small town with quick access to nature and great school options for our children. We strolled downtown, visited the amazing public library, and toured Mountain Sun Community School. We decided to move to Brevard after that first visit!”

“I was familiar with Montessori from my own childhood preschool as well as several friends in Durham. But it wasn’t until our children were enrolled at Mountain Sun that I began to understand the benefits of Montessori firsthand. It’s an amazing thing to see our own children flourish in a community that nurtures their spiritual and intellectual growth, and with teachers that revere nature and play. It all made me more curious about Dr. Montessori’s philosophies.”

Henry earned her Montessori Early Childhood credential from Northeast Montessori Institute, a member of the American Montessori Society. During this endeavor, she did her student teaching at Mountain Sun Community School in the primary class (Otters).“My Montessori training in Massachusetts was excellent and very hands-on, but nothing prepared me more than my year of student teaching. I worked with delightful children who taught me so much. I also interned with the most empathetic and creative teachers, and we had so much fun guiding the children in our classrooms. It’s an amazing opportunity to continue this work and join the faculty at Mountain Sun Community School.”

Henry will begin working as the Assistant Primary Teacher in the upcoming academic year.

Mountain Sun Community School is an independent, nonprofit school serving Preschool through Middle School and utilizes nature-based Montessori and other methods to provide a unique, inspired education for each child.
